Days in the Lives of Curators

Days in the lives of Museum Curators

Ever wonder what museum curators do all day? When I started getting interested in what on Earth I could do with an Art History degree (there’s quite a few things, it  turns out) I started researching what it is curators actually do. Luckily, a lot of museums are starting to realize that transparency is an asset and have started a lot of online campaigns to help the public understand what museums do, and “Day in the life” snapshots inside museums are becoming more common. Here is a list of some of my favorites:

Allen Memorial Art Museum curator Andrea Derstine on The Oberlin Review

Barts Pathology Museum curator Carla Valentine on Stylist

Guildhall Art Gallery chief curator Sonia Solicari on The Guardian

Los Angelos County Museum of Art curator Carol Eliel on the museum’s blog

Metropolitan Museum of Art curator Gary Tinterow on Blouin Artinfo

Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum’s curator Karen Butler on the museum’s blog

Museum of Childhood senior curator Noreen Marshall on The Guardian

National Museum of Civil War Medicine curator Lori Eggleston on Guardian of the Artifacts

Powerhouse Museum assistant curator Melanie Pitkin on Day of Archaeology

Somorset House assistant curator Shonagh Marshall on Stylist

University College London Museum curator Nicholas Booth on the museum’s blog

Victoria & Albert Museum curator Sonnet Stanfill on Stylist
